"FBI," "The Neighborhood," "Magnum P.I." Renewed for Second Seasons at CBS

CBS has renewed the freshman shows “FBI,” “The Neighborhood,” and “Magnum P.I.

“Each of these distinctive shows has made their mark in a variety of ways,” said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment. “Our goals this season were to introduce new series that audiences are passionate about, add more strength to a winning schedule and create more inclusive programming.”

“FBI” stars Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki, Jeremy Sisto, Ebońee Noel and Sela Ward and details the inner workings of the New York office of the titular government agency. Dick Wolf executive produces along with Rick Eid, Terry Miller, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski. The series marks one of Wolf’s few scripted projects to air on a network other than NBC.

Fatima Ali, "Top Chef" Season 15 Fan Favorite, Dies of Cancer at 29

Fatima Ali,
Fatima Ali, a contestant on Season 15 of Bravo’s "Top Chef," has died following her battle with cancer. She was 29.

Ali’s family confirmed the news to Pakistani outlet, Dawn. Bravo also shared the news on its "Top Chef" twitter account, writing:

"We are deeply saddened to hear the news that Fatima Ali lost her courageous battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with her family at this time. People not only fell in love with her cooking, but fell in love with her personality and heart."

"Mrs. Fletcher": Jasmine Cephas Jones To Recur On HBO Comedy Series

Exclusive: Jasmine Cephas Jones is set for a recurring role in HBO’s upcoming comedy series Mrs. Fletcher, starring Kathryn Hahn and directed and executive produced by Nicole Holofcener.

Mrs. Fletcher, based on The Leftovers author Tom Perrotta’s bestselling novel, is a dual coming-of-age story, exploring the impact of Internet porn and social media on the lives of Eve, an empty-nest mother (Hahn) and her college freshman son, played by Jackson White. Casey Wilson, Owen Teague and Jen Richards co-star.

Jones plays Chloe, an undergraduate who runs a support group for students who have family members with autism.

Jessi Klein and Sarah Condon executive produce with Holofcener and Perrotta.

In addition to Hahn, series regular cast includes Jackson White, Casey Wilson, Owen Teague, Jen Richards and Cameron Boyce.

Ratings: ‘The Good Place’ Season 3 Finale Adds a Few Viewers From Last Week
Some CBS reruns yielded to ABC originals on Thursday, when NBC sitcoms like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and the Season 3 finale of “The Good Place” did their best to be competitive.

ABC was first in ratings with a 1.1 rating/10 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 5 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Grey’s Anatomy” at 8 p.m. earned a 1.6/7 and 6.9 million viewers. At 9, “A Million Little Things” landed a 1.1/5 and 5.4 million viewers. “How to Get Away With Murder” at 10 received a 0.6/3 and 2.7 million viewers.

CBS and NBC tied for second in ratings, both with a 0.9. CBS was first in total viewers with 5.7 million viewers, NBC was third with 3.6 million.

’13 Reasons Why’ Author Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Writers’ Group After Misconduct Accusation
13 Reasons Why” author Jay Asher has filed a lawsuit against the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the writers’ group’s executive director, Lin Oliver, for making what he says are false and defamatory statements about him that have damaged his reputation and career, after he was accused of sexual misconduct last year.

According to the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court last week and obtained by TheWrap, Oliver issued a statement to the Associated Press last February that said the organization conducted an “investigation” and that Asher was “found to have violated the Scbwi code of conduct in regard to harassment.” The suit says those statements were false and Asher is seeking monetary damages for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Butaccording to Asher’s suit, the Scbwi did not conduct an investigation, and the author did not violate the Scbwi code of conduct.

Barbara Claman, a casting director known for her role in helping discover stars like, George Clooney, Laura Dern and Charlie Sheen, has died. She was 89.

Claman died in her sleep on Jan. 17, according to her son, Eric Claman Sr.

CBS has given out pilot orders to the drama projects “Under the Bridge” and “Nancy.”

In “Under the Bridge,” when a scandal rocks the medical practice she runs with her husband and their friends, a surgeon rises to the occasion and takes the lead in trying to mend both the practice and her own marriage.

The series hails from Rina Mimoun, who will serve as writer and executive producer. Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television will also executive produce. CBS Television Studios will produce in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

The Sundance TV slate has its biggest headline of this year’s festival in the form of Lilly Wachowski’s next project. The filmmaker will serve as producer, co-director, and co-writer on a new series based on the indie episodic pilot “Work in Progress,” debuting next week in Park City. It will be her first project since working on the first season of the Netflix series “Sense8.”

Abby McEnany starred in the Tim Mason-directed pilot, which is scheduled to be part of the 99-minute “Indie Episodic 1” block screening three times between Tuesday and Thursday. “Work in Progress” is based on McEnany’s solo show, originally produced at the iO Theater in Chicago back in 2016.

‘Leaving Neverland’: Michael Jackson Accuser Wade Robson Responds to Disbelieving Fans

Despite reports that the world premiere screening of Dan Reed’s two-part “Leaving Neverland” series at the Sundance Film Festival would be beset by protestors, the Friday morning screening at Park City’s Egyptian Theatre unfolded without much in the way of outside drama.

Inside the theater, however, audience members who sat through the four-hour-long series endured a devastating and often grueling look inside the experiences of two men who allege that Michael Jackson sexually abused them during their youth. Festival director John Cooper was on hand to introduce the film, during which he explained that for viewers who felt overwhelmed by the graphic descriptions of childhood abuse contained within the documentary, there were health care professionals on site to assist.

ABC Studios Signs Two-Year Overall Deal With Ex-icm Agent Ruthanne Secunda (Exclusive)

Former ICM Partners agent-turned-producer Ruthanne Secunda has signed a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios, Variety has learned exclusively.

ABC Studios International’s 13-episode summer series “Reef Break” marks her first project, which began production in Queensland, Australia, last week. Secunda developed the show while she was still at ICM with longtime client Poppy Montgomery, star of “Unforgettable” and “Without a Trace.”

Montgomery, who first came up with the idea for “Reef Break,” will star in the series. Secunda, Montgomery, and showrunner Mark Rosner will executive produce. Ken Sanzel was previously listed as showrunner on the series.
